No. 309: A Summer Fruit Tart with Gingersnap Crust; Swordfish on the Grill, That Juneteenth Cocktail
Plus: All the strawberry desserts!
🎉 A Celebration Tart
The Island will be buzzing this weekend with Juneteenth events and a whole boatload of activities surrounding the 50th anniversary of the filming of Jaws. (Don’t miss the museum exhibit.) The summer solstice occurs on Friday night, too, making Friday the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. That’s 15 hours and 10 minutes of daylight on the Vineyard – reason enough to celebrate! And I think festive times call for a festive dessert, don’t you?
For a summer show-stopper, it has to be a fruit tart. And Abby Dodge has an update on the classic for us, with a gingersnap crust and a pastry cream filling lightened with whipped cream. While Abby likes to go with all strawberries this time of year, she wanted me to be sure to tell you all that no fancy arrangement is required on these tarts. She said a jumble of berries is just fine, which I was relieved to hear, considering my decorating skills.
