Our quick food-processor pizza dough + an 8-inch cast iron skillet = crisp pan pizza.

🍕Change-Up: Bake Pizza in a Cast Iron Pan

I live with a die-hard, life-long Philadelphia Eagles fan. In fact, I’m now a fan, too – even when the Eagles are trampling my hometown team (Washington Commanders) as they did this past weekend to move on to the Super Bowl in New Orleans on February 9. I usually do my recipe development on Sundays, but during the NFL playoffs, I’ve also been trying to make something for supper that can be eaten on the fly, since half-time is hardly longer than a hot minute.

This past weekend I decided to combine recipe testing and football eating and make homemade pizza. It’s been a while since I’ve made my favorite Simple and Quick Food Processor Pizza Dough and followed my instructions for Homemade Pizza with Vineyard Toppings. And I had a bee in my bonnet to try something new – cooking the pizza in a cast iron skillet.

A local sausage, onion and sage pan pizza, Cook the Vineyard
Local ingredients for our pizzas included (caramelized) onions, Morning Glory Farm sausage, local greens, and sage from the backyard.

I figured I could take the morning to do all my prep for the day – and to make a couple cast iron pan pizzas to photograph. And I’d still have dough and toppings to make pizzas (both on the stone and in a cast iron pan) when my stepson came over to join us for the game later in the day.
